Decorating during the winter months

After the holidays, the house can feel bare and sad after you take down all the Christmas decorations. I wanted to share my tips and ideas for decorating after the holidays and bringing joy into your space!

Start with a blank canvas

When styling, I start by clearing everything so I can work with a blank canvas. If there are any small appliances or other times that can’t move, don’t worry about removing those from the space. I recommend clearing it to allow your creativity to come in and see how you might use items differently. It’s the best method I’ve found for restyling areas in my home!

Style small sections at a time

My biggest tip is to do small sections at a time. If you think of all the empty spaces that need decor, it’ll feel very overwhelming. Trust me from my experience LOL! For example, when I started re-decorating the kitchen I focused on the shelves. Next, I moved on to the window sill. After that, I moved to the island. even though I kept the sill and islant pretty simple, this method helped a ton! I brought my beautiful lotus marble plates back out and love them all over again haha. Use this type of formula and you’ll see how much more enjoyable it is to decorate each space!

Mix textures

Christmas decor typically includes a ton of different textures so when we remove those decorations our spaces can feel super bare. To make up for that, I recommend layering different textures throughout your home. For me, I’m adding stone/marble pieces, faux fur, lots of ceramic pieces, and textural pillows and throws.

Create a winter glow

Use candlesticks (real or faux) and to add a winter glow. This tip is for everyone that wishes they didn’t have to remove the glow of their Christmas tree! I’m on a flameless candle kick right now and I’m literally adding them everywhere. I’m obsessed with the look of these flameless candles.

Make seasonal swaps

If you love wreaths, garlands, Christmas houses, or other pieces of decor, I recommend finding a way to swap it out for the next season. I love garlands, so I like to keep a few up and add new ones after the holiday. My favorite spot for garland is our kitchen window. For Valentine’s Day, I added a beautiful rustic Vday garland (brown sold out, white is available) & a fun DIY floral garland, they are perfect for the season. I love the look, so I plan to change the window with the seasons this year! I also added a fun heart wreath to replace my Christmas wreath on the chimney and it added such a warm touch! If you miss your Christmas houses, you can always mix in some gorgeous lanterns and add tealights or twinkle lights to replicate the glow!

Incorporate natural elements

In the winter, I love incorporating different plants and natural elements into the home. This year I’m loving pinecones and I’m styling them in bowls or standing alone on the table! I’m in love with these waxed pinecones! I also always enjoy incorporating star pods throughout my home, I use them throughout the year but I especially love them during the winter months! They give off the cozy feeling of winter and help fill the space after taking down any bottlebrush or ceramic trees from Christmas! We also received a beautiful pine tree for Christmas from Farm Girl Flowers that I’m moving from the kitchen to the entryway to give it a fresh look.

I hope these tips are helpful as you are styling your home for the winter months. Don’t be afraid to try something unique or different when styling your home this season! It’s a great time to explore creativity in your decor since you have a fresh start with the new year!
