You might be surprised to find out my favorite Christmas decor item…garland! I have such a hard time with Christmas shopping because I always want to buy more garland. 😆 It’s ideal for our house because surprisingly we don’t have a lot of wall space to decorate for Christmas. Garland is a really easy way to decorate without having to do giant installs! Although I do love a beautiful install as well…hehe. Here are a few of my favorite ways to style Christmas garland in our house!
as a Centerpiece on the Table or Kitchen Island
Use garland as the centerpiece on your table or kitchen island. Here I used eucalyptus garland across our 10ft kitchen island and surrounded the garland with new & vintage candleholders. Gorgeous, right!? Tip: switch out the color of your candlesticks to match the theme of your holiday decor!
In Your Vignettes
Do you have a sofa table, entryway table, console table, media stand, or buffet table you’re going to decorate? Garland is the perfect touch to any vignette. Here I have a pre-lit garland across our console table with my mini-village, it adds a little extra glow to the light-up houses.
Down The Staircase
If you have a staircase, garland is a must! Tip: use zip ties to hold your garland in place. Then you don’t have to wrap your garland around the banister and it will drape further down the staircase. I shared all of the details of this look & how to create my DIY Jingle Bell Garland over on the blog here.
In Your Window
We don’t have a lot of wall space to decorate in our house, but we do have a lot of windows. 😍 So I love decorating them for Christmas! I hung five different garlands in our kitchen window to create this layered look. I love that you can get really creative with your garland and even make your own for a personal touch.
On Your Shelves
In our house we have a couple of shelves I love to style, these are the shelves in my craft room. On these shelves, I went with minimal decor for a simple Christmas look and hung the wooden bead garland for an extra touch! I love the look of the beaded garland hanging off the shelves, if you used a different type of garland you could leave it sitting on the shelf instead of hanging off.
Stores To Keep Your Eye On
Every year I find so many new types of garland I love. If you have similar taste in garland, here are a few of my favorite stores to look for garland at.
Garland is such a versatile holiday decor item, there are so many different types of garland to fit different looks, locations in your home, and home decor styles. Some of my favorite garlands are the ones I’ve made myself, it is a personal and unique touch to your home when you create them yourself. If you have limited wall space like we do, get creative and try adding garland to different spots in your home for a decorative touch. I love that you can use it anywhere—shelves, windows, staircase, or even on the tree! Hope this gives you some inspiration for decorating your home this holiday season.
