Simple NYE Celebration Ideas
Today I wanted to share a few things we like to do to celebrate New Year's Eve. While we don’t go all out for NYE like we do Christmas, we still enjoy celebrating the holiday and I wanted to share that with you! Overall, my take on NYE is a little bit of shine with some stars. I like to keep my Christmas decorations up and add to them for NYE.
We like to stay home with the dogs for the new year and have a very low-key celebration. But I love adding these little touches to make the holiday feel special. My biggest goal is to find a way to make it feel like New Year's Eve but still match my personal style — I don't want it to feel unnatural for our space.
Charcuterie/snack board/spread
I love making a charcuterie snack board to bring to get together or even just for Shawn & myself at home. You can’t go wrong with a snack spread and it’s so fun to customize them for the occasion. There are so many different easy snacks you can include on your charcuterie, it doesn't have to just be meat and cheese. Here’s what I added to my NYE charcuterie board:

Trader Joe’s chocolate-covered cookie stars (SO good!) the mini mint ones are our favorite
Star crackers
truffles
stroopwafels
dried fruit
honey
jam
I was super inspired by these two boards I saw on pinterest, linked here and here. I love the number cut outs against the slate board. So pretty!
Simple decor accents
I typically wait a couple of days after Christmas for very NYE-focused decor but for more wintery accents like the DIY paper stars and shine, that could all be added in the week leading up to Christmas. That way you don’t get decor shock and it can transition smoothly!
My take on NYE decor is to add to my Christmas base and incorporate some pieces that could be used for either holiday. I hung this star garland from the peg rail in our kitchen with the Christmas decor I already had. I love that star decor can be used for both Christmas and New Year.
To the shelves I added these star twinkle lights — if you don’t have these, regular twinkle lights could work too! throughout our home, I also like to tie in shiny brass and gold accents through candleholders and other decor objects. While none of these are major changes to our decor, these little touches help me slowly start to transition toward winter decor. (Keep your eye out for a winter decor blog post coming soon!)
DIY Project
I’ve seen so many people doing their take on these DIY paper stars and I had to try it for myself. There are so many different ways to make fun paper stars, each unique from the next. While I am using this for NYE decor, it is definitely another one you could use for Christmas too! Here’s what you need to make these stars.
Supplies:
paper (i used cardstock)
scissors
a paper creaser
string (i used jute)
Instructions:
cut your paper in a square ( i did 7” squares)
fold your square in half with the opening of facing you
find the center of the left side of the half by folding up the left corner and then folding the whole side up in half, Making a small crease at the intersection. (Video tutorial coming tomorrow on my IG feed!)
Take the top right of the entire half and fold it diagonally down toward your center marking
Now fold back the paper so that the matches up with the right edge
Fold the top left corner to the diagonal edge you just created
Now fold the piece in half, where the two diagonal edges meet
Take the smallest triangle and fold back to the opposite edge, this will create your guideline for you to cut across!
Cut across, and re-crease any of the edges that are folded the opposite way.
String them together and install throughout your home!
